I needed a bit of time after seeing Edward Scissorhands to review it and really understand what I loved about it. It wasn’t just because it was so tight and the staging was excellent and the technical dancing was on point. You expect that from any Matthew Bourne production as perfection is standard.
Bourne’s production of Edward Scissorhands did not only provide technical excellence but a magical element that expelled from it’s character based dancing. Sometimes the quietest times were the best times. Edward’s stiff and ridged demeanour is electrifying to watch, dancing magic shooting straight out of his metal fingertips.
It is witty and dark and full of Burton’s influence with the finishing of Bourne’s magical theatrical touch. If you’re a hardcore fan of either, this performance won’t disappoint with a magical fusion of Hollywood and Theatre. A real pleasure for those seeking a little magic to warm you in the winter months.
